When gift-giving is hard...

I love giving gifts. I love every part of it, from searching, finding the right gift for the right person, finding more than one, winnowing down my selections,  wrapping it & writing a greeting - I love it all. The best part is the giving - knowing when I've gotten it right, and when I'm a bit off but they still like it.

Well, it turns out that some people, mostly men, don't see gift-giving the way I do. They find it incredibly stressful and feel that they can't get it right. If you want to read why:

What’s new in version 1.02?

One of the two major lists in Wrapped Up is the Hot List. It’s a year long list of all the special occasions and holidays celebrated by people that you’ve added to the app, sorted by date. This is so you always know what gift-giving occasion is coming up.

Each item on the list is not just a reminder, it’s also a link to take action and part of the changes in the new version was an update to this interface. Now when pressing on a person’s name in the Hot List a sheet pops up from the bottom with all the info you need about that person’s special event. It includes:

  1. What gift did you give? The list of gift ideas you have already compiled for them. This is handy when you’re in a store or getting some online shopping done and need an idea of what to buy. You can also enter any gift last checkbox on the list. Checking off an item will add it to the gift history section for that person, for that event.

  2. Done for 2016. Once you’ve bought a gift, or decided not to give one, checking this box will cross out and gray the event on the Hot List so you’ll know, at a glance, if you still need to get one.

  3. More info for… This links to that person's full page of information, incase you need their sizes, hobbies and favorite color when out shopping.

Swipe down on the sheet when you’re done to save your gifts and status. Choosing more info will also save that data.

This is an easier, faster way to both get the information you need for a person as you need it and a quick way to save a gift and cross it off your to-do list for this year. Like it? Let us know!

Intro to Wrapped Up: the Hot List

The Hot List with upcoming event dates and the people who are celebrating on those dates.

The Hot List with upcoming event dates and the people who are celebrating on those dates.

You might have noticed that Wrapped Up has two main lists. The one under the left tab, People, is easy to understand: it’s all the people you’ve added to the app, people who’ve you decided are important to you and you’d like to remember the special occasions in their life.

What’s the list under the right tab, the Hot List?

First, it’s automatically generated by the app. Second, the information listed is taken from the events that you’ve entered for each person, where the date of the event is what matters. Events are both personal ones, such as birthdays, anniversaries, showers and graduation, and holidays that are celebrated by many on the same date. Finally, all the events for every person are listed in the order they occur, with the soonest first. So your friend’s January birthday will be listed before Valentine’s Day for your boyfriend. The chronological order helps you see what events are coming up and in what order.

What’s in each item?

First, a date, which is the date of the event or holiday. Then, the person who is celebrating on that day and what it is they are actually celebrating. This way you can look at the entire list and see what events you have in the next few weeks that may need gifts.

There are two other interesting features in the Hot List:

First, a press on the person’s name will pop up the list of of the gift ideas you have added for them. Pressing “MORE” on that list will open their full profile, with their hobbies, interests, favorites, and sizes.

Item status pop up. Reached when pressing the more icon to the right.

Second, pressing the more icon on the right let’s you decide what to do with that item on your list. Have you already bought a gift? If so, either select it from the list of gift ideas or, if you bought something not on your short list, enter that. That gift will be automatically entered in that person’s gift history on their profile so you’ll know not to give that gift again.  From the more icon you can also mark the event as “done,” which means you will see it grayed and crossed out on the Hot List, a reminder that you have already bought something for this event. Finally, you can delete the event from the Hot List, never to be reminded of it again . Of course, if it’s a recurring event, you’ll see it on the list for the next year.

We think the Hot List is your to-do list for gift giving.

A new way to wrap up...

In the spirit of the holiday gift-giving season, here's a method that seems way more efficient than the "traditional" wrapping method. Instead of wrapping the paper around the box and then folding each side, try this diagonal method. It uses only two pieces of tape with only one of them visible, making the wrapped gift look smoother. It's also known as "Japanese gift wrapping.

Take a look!
